My mother will probably scold me for this
Today I read an article entitled "Curses! Why Bad Words Feel So Good to Say," which explained that saying culturally taboo words activates the same fight-or-flight portion of the brain that releases adrenaline. Apparently, according to studies, cursing is an effective form of pain management.
So that time when I was in labor and asked "Where the h*ll is the g*dd*mn doctor?" [see footnote] it was an instinctual act of self-medication (and genius, if you ask me).
But seriously, who makes a fully dilated and effaced woman wait FIFTEEN MINUTES to push? My g#d#mn [see footnote] L&D nurses, I guess.
